Nice post. I was glad that the Flyers got Jake as part of the Carter deal. He always seemed a bit adrift in Columbus, not sure where or how he was to play. And very much pushed into the foreground.

I am really impressed with his skating. I remember his draft year and I don't remember his skating being as highly toughted as his board play or passing. And for such a big man he has a really fast first couple of strides, not like Danny B, or G, but factor in his size....he and JvR eventually on a line with Shenn? Sometimes the present gets lost in the glare of the future.

Good blob Tim.

Jake has really come a long way from the start of the season.

Bill spoke of this in his last blob, Jagr has had a tremendous impact on Jake. Jake is learning to use his body more and is building up his lower body to help him stay strong on the puck.

Jake has also been a real plus on the point during the power play.

When Jagr moves on I would like to see Varacek play with Giroux and Hartnell. Voracek is strong on the boards too and could work the give and go with Giroux. That could be a dominate line with G and Voracek getting bettet and better.

Yea I know a lot of people will think it should be JVR when Jagr moves on but for some reason Giroux and JVR do not play well together. They are both wonderful talents but just done mesh on a line as they do with other teammates. I would be interested in seeing what Giroux-Hartnell-Voracek would be like on a line together when that time comes.

Tim, great blog, thanks.
The CBC guys in between periods of game one were very complementary of Jacob.
They mentioned that they thought Nash's game suffered a little when Voracek left Columbus. Size, talent, speed is a great combination.
He seems to have the desire to win and work to get better too.
I am looking forward to reading about his next contract extension, hopefully he will be a Flyer for a long time.

Piedmont vs Tuscany, which is better for reds?

I would like to see JVR maybe with Briere. JVR can skate and pass, maybe also set up Briere, Even JVR-Shenn. It will be interesting to see what unfolds.

Any idea what's it's going to cost to keep him for 3-5 years?

I'm sure were looking at 4-4.5 range if he builds on his excellent playoff year. Jagr is one and done. Hes been great for the young guys but we will have to cut him loose. Nice article Tim.

"Of all the Flyer teams I have seen over the years, this one, for some reason, seems to have far more interchangeable parts that work."

Lavy seems to have a formula to create lines (sure, it's not always, but...).

A fast guy; Giroux, Briere, Read, Wellwood

A guy to set up in front of or go to the net; Hartnell, Simmonds, JVR, Talbot

And the guy to create room on the ice; Jagr, Voracek, Schenn, Couturier.

If you grab one guy from each group and you'd have a pretty good line...

My guess is that Lavy played a little too much Intedo ice hockey, and always played with a fat guy, skinny guy and a medium guy.
